The Loire
The massive diversity of climates, soils and topography along France's longest river provides it with more than its fair share of classic wine styles (Muscadet, Sancerre, Vouvray) but it doesn't always get the share of the limelight. Many of the wines, particularly the Loire's delicate reds are very popular in Paris, but don''t get the international recognition which they deserve. However in the central Loire you find the spiritual home of Sauvignon Blanc typified by the twin Meccas of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume.
Bibendum Fact
Sorted! The "trie" means that individual grapes are painstakingly picked to ensure optimum ripeness; essential given how far north the region is.
