Rhone

The Rhone is home to some of the biggest and boldest red and white wines in France. It is split into two distinct areas. The North is the home of Syrah with wines coming from Hermitage and St Joseph as well as Cote Rotie, which literally means "Roasted Slope" and sees its accidental blend of Syrah and Viognier, copied the world over.

The rustic and rugged southern Rhone is where Grenache plays the star part, with Marsanne, Roussanne, Mourvedre and Cinsault all supporting. Again these famous blends have been mimicked the world over and the producers of this type of wine in California are now the self styled "Rhone Rangers".

Bibendum Fact

In 1954 the town of Chateuaneuf du Pape passed a city ordinance banning UFO's from landing within the town limits. Excellent law - it has never knowingly been broken.
