Tasting Notes
'The 2000 Tignanello is showing more Cabernet than usual in the nose. Dark and intense in color with much plum and cassis fruit along with the graphite and Cabernet herbs, it is solid, tarry, minerally, and dense on the palate. Drink: 2006-2015.' The Wine Advocate 89pts
Producer Information
Tignanello is Piero Antinori's flagship wine; who over the last 25 years has revolutionised the Italian wine scene by introducing Cabernet Sauvignon into his wines. Blended with 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, Tignanello was first released in 1971 and, along with nearby Tenuta Sassicaia, started the trend across Tuscany producing what became known as the 'Super Tuscans'.
Although it was at first seen as vinous treachery breaking the laws of tradition, the Antinori wines were a tremendous success overall, forcing far-reaching changes in attitudes whilst being classified only as IGT (regional wine) due to the use of international grape varieties. The wine is intensely fruity and complex on the nose, full-bodied and rich on the palate, with exceptional structure and a lengthy finish. The Tignanello vineyard; which is among the last to be harvested, consists of 47 hectares on a southwest-facing, rocky-marl and limestone plot. This legendary wine is not to be passed-by!
