No account of the Mosel wine region in Germany would be complete without Joh. Jos. (often referred to more simply as JJ) Prum; a legendary estate in the region. The Prum family is well established; having tended vines along the banks of the Mosel river since the 17th Century, where the stones underfoot are a blue-grey slate and the land is precipitously steep. In 1911 the family vineyards were divided into two and the share taken by Johann Josef Prum is the main attraction today and known for producing some of the finest Rieslings on the planet. Dr Manfred Prum took control in 1969 and he has played his part in consolidating the reputation of the estate to the level that it possesses today.

The Riesling can be austere in youth as these wines are built to last, but the quality is second to none and mature bottles are absolutely stunning. No serious cellar should be without a few cases. The wines of Germany offer many styles, and JJ Prum produces fine wines of great aristocracy; renowned for their precision, focus, finesse and longevity.
