Many commentators point to Christophe Roumier's accession to the family domaine in 1982 as a turning point for this Chambolle-Musigny estate, turning a solid performer into a world class one. Indeed the purity, rarity and price of Roumier's wines have led some to wonder if he is the next Henri Jayer. Christophe has built his success on tradition rather than innovation, believing his duty is to express his terroirs as freely as possible. Fruity wines are dismissed as 'simple - pas Grand Vins.' Christophe's holdings include nearly 2ha of Bonnes-Mare and a tiny plot in Musigny itself, although the Premier Cru Les Amoureuses often challenges the Grand Crus for quality.
