Producer Information

A new discovery for us this year and we wish we had been able to spend longer tasting with Nicolas - as is usually the case in Burgundy we were up against the clock. He supplements his own vineyards by buying fruit from sites owned by other family members but which he controls. The wines are quite dark and ripe with more prominent structure than some other Volnay domaines but we were impressed by both the quality of the fruit and their ability to express the character of their terroirs.

We offered Nicolas' wines for the first time last year and they were very well received at our January tasting with Jancis Robinson amongst those who praised his wines. He is gradually increasing his vineyard holdings as he picks up parcels from various family members and this increased number of wines gives him extra freedom to experiment in the cellar. Nicolas is one of Burgundy's real thinkers, constantly trying new things to try and improve his wines. It is a very laudable attitude and his success is clearly evident in the glass.
