Tasting Notes
We tasted this in Burgundy and Domaine de l'Arlot wines are looking good from top to bottom. This is one of their entry-level wines and showing all the hallmarks of quality of their top Grand Cru. A great midweek wine that can also pass as something good for the weekend.
Producer Information
L'Arlot is a small stream that runs through the hills above Premeaux Pressey where the domaine is based. Domaine de L'Arlot dates back to the 1800s when the estate was owned and exploited by the firm of Maison Jules Belin. It was then sold 1987 to AXA Millesimes, who set about building a new domaine almost from scratch. This is something of a rarity in Burgundy: a domaine owned by a corporate organisation.
The domaine is leased to Jean Pierre de Smet; a protegee of Jacques Seysses at Dujac. Smet has brought much of the Dujac philosophy with him and is crafting pure, elegant wines from some forgotten terroirs. The revival of the 3ha monopole Clos d'Arlot in Nuits St Georges is a particularly welcome development. The wines are light in colour, but no less flavourful, moreover they usually show an extra level of complexity. The vines can be found in parcels all around Nuits St Georges, almost since the beginning 20 years ago he has preferred to work in a biodynamic way - they plough rather than use herbicides and target yields of 35 hl/ha by hand harvest. The domaine has recently acquired a parcel of Grand Cru Romanee St Viviant which is certainly a wine to look forward to!
