Tasting Notes
"This tiny vineyard of just under ten acres (whose vines average 60 years of age) produced an 85% Merlot / 15% Cabernet Franc blend that underwent a whopping 50-day maceration in cement tanks. It is among the biggest, most concentrated and ferociously tannic wines of the vintage. A blue/opaque purple color is accompanied by notes of lead pencil shavings, blueberry liqueur, cassis, acacia flowers, and subtle pain grille. Powerful, full-bodied flavors, sweet but elevated tannins, and a primordial personality suggest that only patient connoisseurs should contemplate purchasing this beauty as it will require a decade of patience. As I have written many times, Clos de Sarpe is a wine meant for consumers with 19th century tastes. Thank goodness someone is making wines such as this. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035+." 90 Points, Robert Parker
