Tasting Notes
An expressive and delicate fizz, with elderflower and ripe citrus fruit flavours. Made in the traditional method, this is a well-crafted sparkling wine using Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes from across France. The subtle buttery notes are balanced by a refreshing crispness, creating a soft and delectable fizz.
Vinification Details.
This Blanc de Noirs has been made from a selection of black-skinned grapes and made in the traditional method used for all fine sparkling wines. A year's ageing on the Lees has added a smooth texture and biscuity complexity to the ripe citrus and white peach flavours.
Bottle pressure - 5.5 bar
Producer Information
A well established winemaking family from Champagne who had the bright (if heretical) idea that it is quite possible to make good sparkling wine by blending the juice of grapes produced in several areas of France. The results are exceptional value for money and well worth investigation. This year Charles de Fere introduce an all- Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs, which CdF boldly proclaim to be a match for any Champagne at twice the price - try it and judge for yourself.
Regional info.
Charles Vienot wines could be found on the tables of the Royal Courts of Europe from the middle of the 18th century, hence the name 'royal' on the label. Charles Vienot indeed founded his merchant house in 1735 to trade in fine Burgundy wines and was soon supplying the crowned heads of Europe, among them the King of Saxony, Frederik Augustus III who sent him a letter asking for more of his wines the colour of the stained glass window of St Chapelle church. In 1934 Charles Vienot became a founding member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
'Blanc de Noirs' describes a wine produced entirely from black grapes; a typical Blanc de Noirs cuvee has deep golden colour, and can be more intensely flavoured than the classic non-vintage multi-grape blend.
