Tasting Notes

It is a stylish, complex, full-bodied wine with well defined berry/plum fruit aromas and flavours and integrated spicy oak. Well balanced and round, with silky soft and rich texture. It is drinking very well now. The wine is full bodied, silky soft and richly textured

Vinification Details.

During the growing process, grapes are rigorously selected from their best plots where yield is naturally very low (15 to 25 hl/ha), crop thinning operations to eliminate unwanted bunches where necessary.

Traditionnal winemaking in stainless steel tanks followed by a 13-month ageing period in "medium toasted" oak barrels, 60% of whiche are new.

Regional info.

Château de Lugagnac was built during the Hundred Years War and the traces of the former fortress can still be seen today in the foundations of the wall that surrounds it. Today, it is a splendid house which has been renovated with taste and skill by Maurice and Mylène Bon. Located on the watershed between the Dordogne and the Garonne and enjoying a temperate climate which is particularly dry in Summer, the 80 hectares of vines are planted high up on sloping terrain, two-thirds on iron-containing clay soils on a limestone subsoil and one-third on limestone with fossilised sea-shells. This varied terroir gives the wines of Lugagnac, made using the traditional methods, a lot of personality. An excellent estate producing top-quality Bordeaux Reds which have regularly won medals.
