Producer Information
Paul and Aline Goldschmidt (nee Guichard) took over the running of this estate, comprising 3 separate properties on the Right Bank, from Aline's father Olivier Guichard in 2004. Since then they have invested extensively in improving the vineyards, then the cellar, and finally the Chateau buildings. Bordeaux winemaking legend Stephane Derenoncourt now acts as consultant, while the full-time oenologist Yannick Reyrel used to work with Jean-Claude Berrouet at iconic Chateaux Petrus and Trotanoy. The potential of this estate is easily understood by seeing where the vines are located: Le Prieure is superbly sited on the limestone plateau of St Emilion, between Troplong-Mondot, Pavie-Macquin and Trottevieille. The second wine of Chateau Le Prieure is 100% Merlot showing uncommon purity, ripeness, freshness, and balance. In essence it is everything modern claret should be, but rarely is: wine with expression and honesty that is made for drinking and enjoyment.
