Tasting Notes
A 100%-Sauvignon Blanc wine that's typically dominated by the citrus fruit character of its variety early on but which deepens with several years in the bottle to show more complex, minerally soil character.
Vinification Details.
The grapes are harvested by hand then fermented in oak barrels, 50% of which are new. After settling, the wine is aged for 12 months in barrique on full lees with bâtonnage. No Malolactic fermentation.
Producer Information
Andre Lurton is our new key partner in Bordeaux, one of the oldest and most respected families only selling wines from their own Chateau. Chateau Bonnet lies to the North of the Entre-Deux-Mers, on the clay-chalk slopes of the commune of Grezillac, overlooking the Dordogne valley some 10km south of Saint-Emilion. The estate dates back to the 17th century. When Andre Lurton took over in 1956, it comprised 30 hectares of vineyard, which he immediately undertook to renovate and develop. Today, half Bonnet's production is devoted to a highly popular dry white (AOC Entre-Deux-Mers), a blend of Sauvignon, Semillon and Muscadelle grapes, carefully vinified to preserve the freshness and bouquet of these varietals. The other half is composed of classic red varietals - Merlots, Cabernet Francs and Cabernet Sauvignons - producing noteworthy clarets widely held to be superior to the general run of the appellation.
Regional info.
Andre Lurton is our new key partner in Bordeaux, one of the oldest and most respected families only selling wines from their own Chateau.
Once a large and celebrated estate, owned by the Gasqueton-Hanappier families, Chateau Cohin-Lurton was acquired by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) in 1968. Andre Lurton who had worked at the estate as a fermier since 1967, bought from INRA a smaller portion of Château Couhins and restored it to its former glory. The 2003 vintage of Chateau Couhins-Lurton was the first classified Bordeaux wine to be sealed with an alternative wine closure when it was released with a stelvin screw cap closure.
Today, the vineyard area is divided between 6 hectares with 100% Sauvignon Blanc and 17.4 hectares with 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon.
