Tasting Notes
A rich, buttery Burgundy with real class. Rounded & soft, a streak of fine minerality & crisp acidity keeps everything ship shape & Bristol fashion. Excellent!
Vinification Details.
After gentle pressing and letting the juice settle the wine is transferred to new barrels for fermentation and ageing for 18-20 months.
Producer Information
Jean-Jacques Robert is one of the undoubted stars of the Maconnais. His hard-to-find domaine (the only indication you have arrived is a small wine bottle label tacked to the gate) was our first stop this year as we travelled up from Lyon. The wines were a real contrast to the plump, opulent 2006s. 2008 was a not an easy growing season in Southern Burgundy with hail and rain ruining much of July and August. Strict
selection in both the vineyards and the cellars has further reduced yields. At Robert-Denogent yields were down to a paltry 22 hl/ha. The wines though are remarkable. Jean-Jacques and his son Nicolas have produced a wonderful range of wines with rounded fruit and electrifying acidity. When compared side-by-side with more renowned names from the Cote d'Or the quality and value shine through.
Regional info.
It was at the very beginning of the 20th century that the great-grandfather Denogent founded the Domaine, consisting of a number of small parcels, situated on the best vineyards of the appellation. In 1988, after studying law, his grandson Jean-Jacques Robert took over the Domaine of 5 hectares.
