Tasting Notes
Mommessin Merlot has a nose of green pepper and blackcurrant, coupled with a strong hint of black chocolate. A fleshy rounded wine, with notes of liquorice and red fruit.
Vinification Details.
Using mechanical harvesting techniques, the wine making process is defined by half of the grapes being vinified by the Carbonic maceration technique, the other half the traditional technique. Ageing takes place in Vats.
Producer Information
Mommessin was delighted to pick up an IWC Great Value trophy for their Beaujolais Villages in 2006, and it is just reward for a winery that really over-delivers on the quality front. Positively steeped in Beaujolais, they produce wine from the region's 10 crus including the soft, almost feminine Brouilly and a wonderfully floral Fleurie with a Burgundian Pinot Noir-like character. The quality of the winemaking is impeccable too, as you would expect from the owners of Burgundy's fabled Clos de Tart.
