Tasting Notes

A full-bodied, peppery, garrigue-dominated effort with loads of black currant and cherry fruit, there is no evidence of new oak, but it possesses plenty of glycerin along with low acidity. Complex!

Vinification Details.

Traditional wine-making process with delestage & remontage for 3/4 weeks in concrete vats. Part of the wine is aged for 18 months in concrete vats & the rest in French oak barrels. Not fined but lightly filtered before bottling and then aged for a further 6 months before release.

Producer Information

A small Chateauneuf grower from right next door to the esteemed Chateau Rayas. The 40ha estate has mainly old vine Grenache and Syrah, although an increasing amount of Mourvedre is also grown. With classic Southern Rhone terroir, including the famous Chateauneuf pebble stones (or galets), and a modern winemaking philosophy, young winemaker Francois Meffre crafts up-to-date versions of one of France's icon wines.

Regional info.

The vineyard is located at the heart of Chateauneuf du Pape, on the slopes above the village of Courthezon. This renowned area is called "Valori". The soil at Valori was formed by the Rhone river during the era called "Pliocene" (2, 000,000 years ago). The vineyard has a total area of 25 acres.
