Producer Information
Made by Jean Gagnard's son-in-law, Richard Fontaine, this Chassagne-Montrachet domaine inherited half of Gagnard-Delagrange's vines when Jean handed over his land to his two daughters. The house style is classic Chassagne: slightly understated with nervy fruit, balanced by sensitive use of oak.
Richard Fontaine makes some of the very best wines in Chassagne. He is a retired aeronautical engineer and we never seem to tire of the rocket science jokes when we taste with him. The wines have a fantastic purity and minerality allied to a lovely weight and richness of fruit. The balance is just perfect. We couldn't get overexcited by every set of white wines we tasted this year but we left Richard's cellar with huge smiles on our faces.
