Tasting Notes

Jancis Robinson

Score: 18 / 20

Smudgy and interesting, already, on the nose. Lots of richness and smoothness. Really. This approaches the idea of a classic vintage with its density and concentration. Long. Very fine. RS 156 g/l, TA 4.2. 14%

Wine Spectator

Score: 87-90 / 100

A very floral style, with violet and bluebell aromas and slightly perky acidity leading the way, followed by blueberry, cherry skin and plum notes filling in behind. Not as dense as most in this vintage.

Bibendum

Score: 16.5 / 20

Ripe intense nose with lemon barley sugar and orange peel notes. Full-bodied and very sweet on the palate but just lacking some complexity and layers of flavour. Lovely freshness on the finish but just a touch too simple to get top marks.

Wine Advocate

Score: 93-95 / 100 Neal Martin

The 2010 Chateau Coutet has 154-gms/litre residual sugar, one of the highest in Sauternes/Barsac. It is endowed with a delightful bouquet of freshly sliced mango, Tropicana and a touch of honey, with good definition and minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with very impressive balance and poise, and is slightly viscous in the mouth, with almond, lemon curd and a touch of orange peel. The finish is composed and long. The 2010 Coutet is very impressive for the vintage, although I suggest not quite reaching the stellar heights of the magnificent 2009.
