Tasting Notes

Piropo Merlot shows aromas of ripe plum and black cherry fruits with rich textures and rounded oak characters. This medium-bodied wine finishes with soft, silky tannins.

Vinification Details.

Hand-picked Merlot grapes grown in the high altitude Tupungato district, fermented in stanless steel tanks for 10 days at 25-28C, 50% of which fermented in contact with French oak staves. A further 10% of the blend is then aged in contact with French oak staves for a further 3 months.

Producer Information

Since its launch in 1999, Argento has quickly become the leading range of wines from Argentina in the UK and represents an exciting new era in Argentine winemaking. With its high altitude vineyards, desert-like climate and natural irrigation from the Andean mountain melt water run-off, the Mendoza region is capable of producing world class fruit. The winemaking team uses the latest in cellar technology to craft wines that meet the highest quality standards and show the best characteristics of the unique vine growing conditions.

Regional info.

In Spanish, piropo means an amorous compliment or flirtatious remark made by a man to a woman as she passes on the street. In Argentina, “piropos” are something of an art form. Their subtle and traditional construction instills fantasy and confidence, much like the wine you are about to enjoy. Mendoza has perfect conditions for growing grapes. The vines enjoy the high altitudes, cool climate and clear snowmelt of the Andes.
