Tasting Notes
This wine has a really interesting, vivaciously burgundian build. It's in no way heavy or too sweet but dances lightly on the palate, with some intriguing coffee bean notes and a lovely acidity and velvety texture and very enveloping tannins.
Vinification Details.
Hand harvested, the grapes are first cold soaked for 10 days at 9-10 ºC before the fermentation takes place in open-topped fermenters à la Bourguignonne took with a few pigeages and remontages. It is then matured in French oak barrels (of which 25% are new) for 11 months.
Producer Information
Forged from several mountainous valleys along the southwest coast of South America, Chile has seen a renaissance in its agricultural heritage with wine. VC Family Estates, the winemaking arm of the Corpora Group, whose wine portfolio includes brands like Gracia de Chile, Agustinos, Porta and Veranda, are harnessing the unique climate and dramatic terroir (mountains, valleys, proximity to the ocean) to make world class wines.
The winemaking team here has a particularly Burgundian accent: Consultant is Pascal Marchand, ex winemaker at Domaine de la Vougeraie, and Veranda is his own project. It is little wonder perhaps that Chardonnay & Pinot Noir seems to be something of an obsession, including new clones of Pinot Noir being developed in a joint venture between VC Family Estates, the University of Concepcion and UC Davis in California.

Consultant is Pascal Marchand, ex winemaker at Domaine de la Vougeraie, and in day to day charge is Louis Vallet, son of Bernard Vallet of the eponymous Burgundy domaine. The Bio Bio Valley is Chile's second southernmost wine region, only Malleco can boast vineyards further south in Chile than Bio Bio. The Agustinos Bio Bio vineyards are located 500 km south of Santiago and are situated at an altitude of 75 metres above sea level. The climate is a sub humid Mediterranean with the sea influence from the Pacific Ocean, the vines are grown in medium to poor soils, with stones and sandy areas and are on gentle slopes close to Bio-Bio River.
VC Family Estate is one of the first producers that has taken Bio Bio particularly seriously, investing heavily in top quality new vineyards down there as long ago as 1993.
