Tasting Notes
Ripe blackberry and vanilla tinged Syrah fruit, with classic strawberry/rhubarb Grenache notes on the nose and palate. Medium bodied but with plenty of punchy fruit flavours.
Vinification Details.
The wine is fermented in open top fermenters using manual punch down for optimum extraction and structure with soft tannins. After primary fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels of which 20% are new for malo-lactic fermentation & 10 months of aging. Bottled unfined in August 07.
Producer Information
With the average boutique Californian Pinot Noir now reaching First Growth level in pricing, we are delighted to have Morgan on board. The wines are both stunning value and stunning quality, and (praise be) lack the excessive oak of so many of their compatriots. Located in the heart of Steinbeck country, the vineyards are in the Santa Lucia Highlands overlooking the Salinas River Valley and enjoy warm morning sunshine before ocean breezes cool down the afternoons. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay do particularly well in this cooler climate alongside some of the most exciting Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc in the state.
Regional info.
Cotes du Crow's is sourced primarily from the San Lucas and Arroyo Seco appellations of Monterey. Temperatures are warmer down valley as the coastal fog doesn't always reach the area, yet overnight lows are still quite cool which retain acidity and lengthen the growing season.
