Tasting Notes
A dry but powerful Gewurztraminer with spicy, rose petal and mango notes on the nose. Full-bodied and rich on the palate with notes of ginger, orange and vanilla balanced by fresh, mouthwatering acidity.
Vinification Details.
They were all hand picked, then crushed and de-stemmed, before undergoing a combination of indigenous and inoculated yeast fermentation, giving it more complexity. Five percent of the wine was fermented in old French oak, bringing in an extra layer of richness and creaminess. The rest fermented in stainless steel.
Producer Information
In the hectic 'make 'em, bottle 'em, open 'em and drink 'em' world of wine, it's a pleasure to come across a producer whose wines demand some proper thought and contemplation. Huia is one such winery. Owned by Mike and Claire Allan, who's CVs read like a roll call of Kiwi wine's biggest names, this Marlborough operation is making small quantities of really profound, delicious wine. The sparkling vintage Brut is a particular Bibendum favourite.
