Tasting Notes

The lifted bright fruit jumps out of the glass, with prominent flavours of raspberry, menthol and pepper spice. The tannins are soft and supple, but firm enought to give the wine great length on the palate. This is a super smooth wine, with a touch of lively acidity.

Vinification Details.

The parcels of fruit are harvested during the day, and crushed directly into stainless steel fermenters ansd inoculated with a natural yeast strain. Fermentation occured over a 10 day period, with variation in handling techniques such as drain and returns, and pumpovers. Maturation occured in a selection of new and 3 year old French oak barrels for 18 months, before hand selecting the perfect barrels for the perfect blend.

Producer Information

This great Barossa winery goes from strength to strength. Toby Barlow, fresh from his stunning successes at Mitchelton in Victoria, has taken over where Matt Gant left off, and ensures that St Hallett remains one of the most forward looking wineries in Australia. It isn't just Shiraz that rocks their world, and the Poacher's Blend white (the first vintage was made from grapes 'stolen' in lieu of an unpaid bill!) is as racy and fresh as anything in Australia.

Regional info.

The 2008 Garden of Eden Shiraz was made from four vineyards in the Eden Valley, all varying in vine age, soil type and elevation, yet complementing each other in creating the Eden Valley Shiraz spectrum of flavours.
