Tasting Notes

The Sideways Chardonnay has typical Margaret River regionality. Light straw in colour, the aromatics are melons and fresh fig, with some grapefruit, roasted nuts and matchstick complexity. A medium to full-bodied chardonnay palate has texture and creaminess but finishes tight and cleansing due to the natural acid backbone.

Vinification Details.

The Sideways Chardonnay was barrel fermented using wild yeasts in mostly second and third use French oak barriques. The wine was aged on lees for 8 months with no malolactic fermentation prior to blending.

Producer Information

The winery takes its name from Madfish Bay which can found near Denmark in Western Australia's Great Southern and where, apparently, fish go loco. Designed to reflect WA's laid-back lifestyle, both the packaging and the juice are right on the money. As you'd expect from wines from the same stable as the mighty Howard Park they are classically cool-climate in style with a real vibrancy of fruit and an abundance of cheeky charm.

Regional info.

The Chardonnay fruit comes from the Yallingup and Karridale subregions of the Margaret River region. The Margaret River region has a maritime climate with gravely, loamy soils.
