Tasting Notes

A great example of the Margaret River Cabernet blend. There are aromas of blackberry, mulberry, smoked meats and roasted cherry tomatoes with the underlying regional bay leaf and black currant Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. The palate shows wonderful Merlot power: layered fruit characters of plum and forest floor with herbal and earthy complexity, a savoury edge to the ripe gravely mouth-filling tannin structure which finishes long and fine. The Petit Verdot adds a subtle but important firmer backbone to the wine.

Vinification Details.

Fermentation took place in a mix of open top and closed static fermenters, and some parcels had extended skin macerating time to build the layered tannin profiles necessary for Cabernet blends. All components were basket-pressed and aged in French oak barriques for 15 months.

Producer Information

The winery takes its name from Madfish Bay which can found near Denmark in Western Australia's Great Southern and where, apparently, fish go loco. Designed to reflect WA's laid-back lifestyle, both the packaging and the juice are right on the money. As you'd expect from wines from the same stable as the mighty Howard Park they are classically cool-climate in style with a real vibrancy of fruit and an abundance of cheeky charm.

Regional info.

This wine is predominantly sourced from the Leston Vineyard in the Wilyabrup subregion, and from two vineyards in the Yallingup subregion of Margaret River. The Margaret River region has a maritime climate with gravely, loamy soils.
