Tasting Notes
Unusual and delicious dry Muscat from the Douro. The nose is aromatic and beguiling, with notes of rose-petal, musk and pink grapefruit, while the palate is crisp and refined with a pleasing texture and well-balanced acidity. Perfect on its own or with lightly spiced dishes.
Vinification Details.
Fermentation lasted for nearly one month at temperatures varying between 16 º and 18 ºC. Wine was kept for 5 months in stainless steel vats.
Producer Information
This eighteenth century Douro wine estate is actually one of the most modern-looking in Portugal. Although the team uses the traditional panoply of indigenous grapes, their methods are bang up to date and the results nothing short of sensational. Unusually for the region, Quinta do Vallado's priority is making table wines rather than Port, although their 10 year old Tawny is a superb partner for everything from ripe Stilton to ginger cake. The success of this approach has been borne out by the spicy, rich Tinto Reserva walking off with a host of trophies in its last two vintages at both the IWC and Decanter awards.
