Trimbach
Having come into existence in 1626; the Trimbach family has a wine-making history stretching back almost 400 years. It was not until the late 19th century, however, under the leadership of Frederic-Emile Trimbach, that the business began to really expand. Trimbach has remained a family run business, based in Ribeauville, with brothers Jean and Pierre in charge today. They currently own vineyards scattered across three villages, with an emphasis on Riesling and Gewurztraminer. The style is usually dry with firm acidity and ripeness of fruit. The wines are food friendly, and also age very well, demonstrating from the outset a fine balance. Their best known wines are the Rieslings Clos St Hune and Cuvee Frederic -Emile, made from the grand cru sites of Rosacker, Osterberg and Geisberg. Trimbach's best expression of Gewurztraminer is the Cuvee des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre. They also produce basic cuvees of Muscat, Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner which are stylistically dry. The 'Selection de Grains Nobles' and 'Vendange Tardive' on the other hand, naturally exhibit residual sugar and characteristics of noble rot (the fungus Botrytis Cinerea). These are wonderfully balanced and fresh wines from one of the most established houses in Alsace.
