Domaine de la Romanee Conti
Domaine de la Romanee Conti is the purest, most aristocratic and most intense example of Pinot Noir you could possibly imagine. It is without question the most famous estate in Burgundy and arguably the world. The domaine; commonly known as DRC, is co-owned by the de Villaine and Leroy families. There are 25 hectares of vineyards, all Grand Crus, including the jewel in the crown; the 1.8 hectare monopole of Romanee Conti.
The winemaking is very much like the Pinot Noir itself; a translator of terroir. This philosophy has enormous attraction because it is rooted in simplicity and common sense - that the vineyard allows the maximum potential of quality, and that this may be diminished, equalled but never augmented in the cellar.
The tiny vineyards, the very old vines, the low yields, and above all the deeply rooted belief in terroir make the wines both sought after and immensely scarce. The hallmark is concentration, great depth of structure, unbelievable length and supreme elegance!
