Domaine de la Pousse d'Or
A famous old domaine in Burgundy that has been revitalised since changing ownership in 1997. Owned by Patrick Landanger (a successful electromechanical engineer); Domaine de la Pousse d'Or stands as one of the most recognised names in Volnay. Landanger made improvements in both the winegrowing and the winemaking. Green harvesting began in the vineyards keeping yields low and resulting in more powerful, richer wines. Originally called Bousse d'Or in the 18th Century - which translates as 'golden earth'; the domaine is located a few kilometres from Beaune, and the 13 hectares of vineyards are spread among the communes of Volnay, Pommard and Santenay. Typically one-third new oak is used. Impressively there are three Premier Cru Volnays from privately owned vineyards: 'Clos de la Bousse d'Or', 'Clos des 60-Ouvrees' and 'Clos l'Audignac'. This is the epitome of fine Pinot Noir.
