Pingus

Dominio de Pingus - one of Spain's true 'terroir-driven' wines made from the national grape Tempranillo (also known as Tinto Fino in the Ribera del Duero area). When established in 1995, the winery was based on the principles of Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck to make 'an unmistakably Spanish wine', made from old vines, impeccably cared for and 100% organic. Sisseck now also exercises biodynamic principles, yields are tiny and fewer than 500 cases are made each year. The wine's character consists of a dark dense colour, intense perfume and multi-layered palate. Aged in 100% new French oak, the style is profound, beautifully balanced, and elegant. Also look out for the second wine called Flor de Pingus (100% Tempranillo).

Pingus is a rare wine which combines a true sense of its origins with a fiercely singular personality; it rivals the Vega Sicilia winery for top contender for the most serious wine to emerge from Spain in the last 20 years. It is important to highlight its success for placing the Ribera del Duero region on the world stage for producing outstanding and charismatic wines. Robert Parker's comments include 'one of the most profound wines ever made in Spain' ('03 tasting note) and 'spectacular, nearly perfect' ('99 tasting note, awarded 98pts). Need we say any more?
