Penfolds Grange
Penfolds Grange is Australia's famous 'cult wine', and even referred to as Australia's 'first growth'. Released for the first time in 1952, it has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine for over 40 years! Today it is a wine of international renown, with each vintage eagerly awaited by collectors all over the world.
The blend varies between vintages; however all are dominated by Shiraz from South Australia, with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is a phenomenon in the sense that it has bypassed the fads and trends of the modern wine world by maintaining its integrity of style for such a long time and remaining true to its original maker Max Schubert; who returned from Bordeaux in 1950 wanting to make a wine so great it could rival First Growth Bordeaux. That it certainly does: Penfolds Grange is the standard against which all other Australian red wines are judged. This historic fine wine is a beast which will age for up to 35 years - get some if you can.
