Geantet Pansiot

This domaine could be a case study for the current trend in Burgundy and how it is shaping the future. As Robert Parker notes, 'Geantet-Pansiot is one of the up and coming domaines from the Cote d'Or.' Vincent Geantet relieved his father at the helm of this 11-hectare property in 1989 and forms part of a younger generation intent on improving what previous generations left behind. Since he took over, the quality curve has arched progressively skyward, Vincent is already emerging as a new star of the appellation.

Yields are low, with limited use of chemical fertilizer and other vineyard treatments. In the winery Vincent employs total destemming to avoid unpleasant tannins, the wines are aged in approximately 30% new oak for the Vieilles Vignes and Premiers Crus and 50% new oak for the Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru. They are bottled without filtration, and his wines tend to be accessible early on, with the ability to age superbly as well. These are lovable, terroir-expressive Burgundies that regularly garner impressive press from Allen Meadows' Burghound, Parker's Wine Advocate, and Tanzer's International Wine Cellar.
