Ornellaia

Since its foundation in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori (brother of Piero Antinori), Tenuta dell' Ornellaia has gained an impressive following by wine lovers throughout the world. Located in an untouched area on the coast of Tuscany in the region of Bolgheri, the small estate is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot as the dominant grape varieties.

Tenuta dell' Ornellaia's award winning, powerful reds include Ornellaia; a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and also Masseto (100% Merlot). The wines are known for being wonderfully rich, silky and feminine, and have rapidly become modern classics, which contrast in style with the more masculine nature of neighbouring Sassicaia.

The estate was temporarily owned by the Robert Mondavi enterprise from 1999-2002, before total ownership was passed over to the Frescobaldi family. The principles of independence and continuity contributed to this winery's recognition and success; earning its place within the elite group of 'Super Tuscans'.
