Denis Mortet

This traditional Burgundian domaine was founded by Denis Mortet back in the early 90s. Although now sadly deceased, he shortly became the centre of much attention in Burgundy for fashioning wines originating from modest vineyard holdings but which punch far above their weight! Mortet prided himself on producing fine wines from Pinot Noir which are, according to him: 'a pleasure to drink both young and old'.

Domaine Mortet's 10 hectares cover 14 appellations and include parcels of two Grand Cru vineyards: Clos de Vougeot and Chambertin. These wines are a rare treat; no stone is left unturned in the pursuit of excellence and the immaculate vineyards reflect this perfectly. From this winemaker of uncontrollable passion come outstanding wines which are rich and refined with great red berry fruit concentration, oak and spices. In the hands of Denis Mortet even more modest appellations gain a richness and stature one would only usually expect to find in wines of much grander origins. Even his 'villages' wines are tended to as if they were Grand Crus.
