La Spinetta

La Spinetta is located in Castagnoe Lanze, North-West Italy, and is run by Giorgi Rivetti. The estate has developed a fine reputation since its beginning only 30 years ago. Giuseppe Rivetti (nicknamed 'Pin') was the first in his family to produce a great wine from his homeland. He took up residence at La Spinetta and bought vineyards with his wife Lidia in 1977. At first they made Moscato d'Asti, then in 1985 the estate made its first red wine, Barbera Ca di Pian. La Spinetta's most significant wine is 'Pin', first made in 1989 it is a blend of 50% Nebbiolo with 25% each of Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The range also includes the Barbarescos of Gallina, Starderi and Valeirano, and a Chardonnay called 'Lidia'. In 2000 the family's ambition to make Barolo became reality as they acquired vineyards in Grinzane Cavour. Today the estate expands over the borders of Piedmont with 65 hectares of vineyards in Tuscany where they produce 100% Sangiovese; the true ambassador of Tuscan terrain. The growth of this traditional family business is impressive; La Spinetta is today a famous name resounding throughout the world of Italian fine wine. Highly recommended.
