Jaboulet
Jaboulet was established as far back as the 19th Century by Antoine Jaboulet, and the business today bears the name of his eldest son Paul: Paul Jaboulet Aine. The most significant development in the history of the firm came late in 2005, when it was sold to the Frey family, who also own Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux. The Jaboulet range includes appellations from throughout the Rhone Valley, both north and south. As is the case with other top negociants such as Chapoutier and Delas, however, it is in the appellations of the northern Rhone that Jaboulet excels.
The jewel in the portfolio is the Hermitage La Chapelle, along with the white Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg. Jaboulet own approximately 25 hectares of vines on this famous and highly-rated site. Vineyard and winery practices are modern and quality orientated, with destemming, separate vinification of individual plots. New oak is used only for the Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg; the other reds go into used barrels. Jaboulet is one of the most known names in the Rhone, with the iconic flagship wines commanding extremely high yet justifiable prices.
