Joseph Drouhin
Domaine Joseph Drouhin is a golden oldie in Burgundy; tracing its roots back to 1880, by 1918 vineyards were purchased in both Beaune and Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot. In the late 1950's the domaine really started to expand to the North of the Cote de Nuits; purchasing a number of parcels in such famous vineyards as Musigny, Griotte Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Beze, Bonnes Mares and Grands Echezeaux.
The 1980's even saw an expansion into the US with the arrival of Domaine Drouhin Oregon. There are 36 hectares planted in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Back in France over 65 hectares are owned and cultivated for the domaine wines.
So what can you expect from this domaine? The moto is to 'strive for wines that breed, finesse and elegance while preserving the authentic individuality of each appellation' - the wines are soft, accessible and with very pure fruit. These top wines tend to disappear very soon after release so get some while you can!
