Domaine Matrot
The Matrot domaine is one of the oldest estate-bottlers in Burgundy and one of the most important properties in Meursault. Today the estate is run by third generation Thierry Matrot and his wife Pascale. He uses no new oak for the village wines in order to emphasise Chardonnay's elegant fruit character; the wines have a rich 'fatness' balanced by concentration, grip and backbone that enables them to age. Thierry argues that good winemaking is not all about theory but also about flexibility: 'For me the fascination of wine is that each location and each variety has an identity and individuality...every vintage is different and so every year the winemaking techniques are going to be a little bit different aswell.' Domaine Matrot is an established and highly rated estate, comprising 18 hectares of beautifully tended vineyards.
