Domaine de la Vougeraie

Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded in 1999, uniting under a single signature the 91 acres of vineyards owned by the Boisset family within the Cote d'Or of Burgundy. Boisset are the largest negociant in the region and their strategy here was to create a domaine to compete at the highest level with the very top producers. This 'super-domaine' boasts five red and one white grand cru. There are also two monopole vineyards in Vougeot, the Clos Blanc de Vougeot and Le Prieure (red & white). Domaine de la Vougeraie is based in Premeaux-Prissey - a small village at the southern end of the Cote de Nuits. Pascal Marchand was appointed chief winemaker and the creation of this domaine was clearly a well thought out exercise; from the vineyard holdings and facilities to the personnel and marketing plan. The wine-making uses 100% destemmed fruit with very lows yields and the wines are racked into wooden barrels mostly of 100% new oak. All the vineyards were certified organic in 2006; this domaine represents the most prestigious wines from the ultimate holding company of other producers such as Bouchard Aine, Jaffelin, Ropiteau and Mommessin.
