Domaine Cheysson

Chiroubles is one of the smallest of the Beaujolais crus, yielding fragrant, deep pink wines are light and delicate. This historic 36ha domaine is situated at the top of a hill with views of the Alps and Mont Blanc. The winery was established in the 17th century and the old family home is still on the site which houses France's oldest tennis court! Bright, ruby colour with punnet after punnet of fresh summer berries on the nose. Soft and juicy on the palate, it eschews any confected notes in favour of a distinctly Pinot Noir-esque style. So good is the wine quality at Cheysson now that it recently caught the eye of Robert Parker's man in Beaujolais:

"The domaine of Jean Pierre Large came as a revelation to me of the quality possible in his appellation. Large's 2006 Chiroubles is brimming with ripe fresh red raspberries, accented by orange zest and white pepper. Deep nut oil and - impossible to describe otherwise - mineral notes well up on the palate and the wine finishes bracing, lip-smacking and yet thought-provoking."
