Bouchard

Bouchard

One of the oldest, and most prestigious negociants in Burgundy, Bouchard Aine et Fils has an enviable portfolio of vineyards from which to source their grapes. Head winemaker Laurent Mairet crafts attractive wines, designed to approachable throughout their lives - a useful philosophy for Burgundy-philes who lack the space or patience to cellar wines for a decade or two. Not a problem for Bouchard though who have based their cellars and offices at the grandly named Hotel du Conseiller du Roy since the middle of the 18th Century. Modern, clean, fresh; these are twenty-first century Burgundies from a company with eighteenth century roots.

They may be based in a very historic building, but their approach to modern wine market challenges are very innovative indeed. They have embraced the PET bottle (much easier than saying polyethylene terephthalate!) as a credible packaging alternative to glass and offer Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as a Chablis in this format. Extensive work has been done on the oxygen scavenging properties of this format in order to improve shelf life and Bouchard are at the forefront of this field. As well as being far less carbon intensive to produce and ship, these bottles open up new wine possibilities at large, glass-free events and other such occasions.
