Alion

Bodegas Alion was started by what is probably Spain's greatest estate; Vega Sicilia, in 1991. Alion is now part of Spain's most sought-after reds and has emerged as an icon in its own right. It is typical Ribera del Duero with dry black fruit, oak spice and ripe but structured tannins. Made from 100% Tempranillo, critic Robert Parker is a huge fan. Alion represents a new innovative addition to Vega's portfolio because it will drink beautifully when young and is made with a modern approach to winemaking. The wine is aged in new American oak to create a more succulent, modern expression of the region. Grapes are sourced from the winery's 18 hectares of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and also from Vega Sicilia's own vineyards at Valbuena.
