Chateau Palmer

Chateau Palmer is an exceptional Third Growth Bordeaux, and certainly one of the best within the Margaux appellation. In some years it is even said to be superior to many Second Growths in terms of sheer quality. The grand vin sees up to 21 months in oak of which 45% is new.

Major General Palmer; an Englishman who retired from military life, bought the property in 1814 from the Gascq family for 100,000 fr! Palmer invested in the property over the following years, acquiring additional land and facilities. By 1831 the domain extended 163 hectares with 52 hectares under vine; of which today 55% are Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot (the remaining Cabernet Franc).

Palmer's relatively high Merlot content makes it the closest in style to the great wines of Pomerol and St-Emilion out of all the Medoc estates. The second wine, Alter Ego de Palmer, can also be fantastic value, especially in good vintages. These are stunning wines; beautifully refined and silky, and amazing value too - give it a try.
