IWC Awards 2008 - 08/09/2008
And the winner is...Bibendum!
On Wednesday Bibendum picked up the International Wine Challenge Award for the Best Wine List. This is the first time we have won this category and shows how valuable an interesting and visually expressive wine list can be.
The judges praised the 2008/9 Bibendum Wine List, in both its paper and digital format, for its innovation and creativity. It is wonderful to receive this sort of recognition after the endless hours of brainstorming, writing and design that went into it.
Our aim with the list was to really get under the skin of the various wine regions from which we import our portfolio. Rather than plastering it in classic vineyard and winery shots, our in-house design team created from scratch an alternative visual language for wine. By building complex patterns made up of many different constituent parts, the images reveal more and more insight into the region the longer you look at them. The overall image conveys a message and the parts each say something about the wine style, flavours, wine region culture, history and people.
In addition, the copy achieves the balance of being conversational, yet informative; communicating our wine values as well as our personality and that of our producers. As well as wine information you can find out about events and the team. Yes, some of them really do look like that!
