Bibendum and the MS Society partner up to raise a lot of money, and a glass or two along the way - 06/10/2008

After a lengthy selection process involving votes from every single member of staff, Bibendum has nominated the MS Society as its chosen charity for 2008/9 and beyond. The MS Society is a great choice, because apart from being a fantastic cause, it really goes the extra mile to get the staff of the companies it works with involved in fundraising.

What do they do?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Around 85,000 people in the UK have MS. The MS Society provides:

  • Support through National Support Groups and Help Lines
  • Education through living with MS seminars, free publications, self management etc
  • Financial Help such as helping to determine if a person qualifies for a grant
  • Professional help from nurses and other specialists
  • Respite care and short breaks

They help to organise all manner of fundraising activities involving overseas trekking, local volunteering, parachuting, whitewater rafting, running, walking, cycling and recycling schemes.

So far, Jamie Wynn-Griffiths has gone under the waxer for a spot of hair removal - ouch! Check out the painful pictures here. And last Friday, Jennie Miller, Lois Watkins and Lea Williams from our Customer Services team got down to London Bridge bright and early to spend the morning volunteering for the MS Society annual London Flagship Day. It was pretty cold, as you probably remember, but I think all that bucket-shaking kept them warm. The girls handed back pretty heavy buckets by the end of the day.

And all in all, 15 brave/insane souls volunteered for the dubious pleasure of running the London Marathon in the drizzle next April 26th. Alas, we could only accommodate four, so the names went into a hat and fate decreed that the lucky quartet would be: Dan Haigh, Amy Hope Thomson, Kate Lawton and Willie Lebus.

As well as spending the next seven months getting in shape for the race (a challenge which may be greater for some of them than others - read Willie's running blog here), Dan, Amy, Kate & Willie are aiming to raise £20,000, so if you would like to support them please email us for more details.
