10 Bibendum wines make the grade for Matthew Jukes' Top 100 Australian Wines - 13/05/2010

Bibendum and Lion Nathan, one of our key Aussie partners, had a brilliant result as 10 of our wines were named in Matthew Jukes' Top 100 Australian Wines 2010.

According to Matthew, the list - "the result of exhaustive tastings over the last twelve months" - represents "the finest one hundred Australian wines on the shelves in the UK today."

In a new addition for the 2010 list, Matthew also launched his 'Hall of Fame' for wineries who have had at least one wine included in every Top 100 since the list's debut in 2004. St Hallett and Knappstein were among just 15 wineries to be included, a fantastic achievement.

Here are the Bibendum wines that made the grade:

Mitchelton Airstrip Marsanne/Roussanne/Viognier 2009

"...It should be on every Michelin star restaurant's list in the country, because serious food needs this degree of class in the glass."

Petaluma Viognier 2009

"Rich and refreshing is not usually possible in the Viognier world but '09 Petaluma manages to be both, and that is what will win it a new brigade of followers."

St Hallett Eden Valley Riesling 2009

"...the aroma grabs you by your olfactory bulb and never lets go and so it would be criminal not to include it in this list of greats."

Knappstein Hand Picked Riesling 2009

"For a wine that can be bought for nine quid...it is frankly an unmissable proposition."

Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling 2009

"As much as you'd like to crack an ice cold bottle when you walk through the door after a hard day's work, slip any white in first, because Hanlin Hill offers much more than just primary refreshment."

Stonier KBS Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2008

"...it is patently clear that this is one of the future classics of the Australian Chardonnay scene."

Stonier Pinot Noir 2008

"The '08 Stonier is dimensionally perfect, with lithe, agile tannins and multi-skilled, multi-talented fruit flavours."

Preece Merlot 2008

"Merlot is an outcast in the wine world, but it wouldn't be if there were more spunky wines like this."

Petaluma Coonawarra 2007

"...a heavenly Petaluma and one which should start to drink well from a relatively early age."

St. Hallett Gamekeeper's Reserve 2009

"...the succulence and precocity of this wine is wholly down to St. Hallett's innate understanding of what we want to drink when we're thirsty for gluggable, juicy, lip-licking red."

St. Hallett Old Block Shiraz 2006

"I love this Old Block. It might be my favourite young vintage of all time. I will pop back to this wine every six months or so for twenty years to watch its progress and I anticipate it rivaling some of the very big names in the future."
