Bibendum wins 'Great Value Merchant of the Year Award' in the Sommelier Wine Awards 2009 - 08/05/2009

A big round of High-5s here at Bibendum today as we found out that we had won 'Great Value Merchant of the Year' in the Sommelier Wine Awards 2009. Given the current economic climate, it is a real feather in the buying team's cap for us to have been recognized for our commitment to providing the very best wines available for the money.

The judges said:

"This award is all about over-delivery - and Bibendum certainly managed that this year. Of its seven Gold Listed wines, all but one were under a tenner, and most were under £8 [trade price ex VAT]. That is one hell of a good performance and shows that the company has a good eye for finding great wines at list-friendly prices"

Our Gold Listed wines were:

A to Z Pinot Gris 2006 - 'By the Glass Award' as well

Oveja Negra Sauvignon Blanc/Carmenere 2008

Howard Park Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Terrasola Muscat Catalunya 2007

Casa de la Ermita Reserva 2003

Vinedos de la Posada Fairtrade/Organic Torrontes 2008

Prinz von Hessen Riesling H 2006

A further 8 Bibendum bottles were shortlisted for an award, including wines from Bodega Catena Zapata, Dry Creek, A to Z, Bodegas Farina, Morgan, Argento and Alamos.

In total, only 100 wines earned the Gold List accolade, making the above list a pretty outstanding effort. Over 60 sommeliers from around the UK took part in the judging and the Gold and Shortlisted wines will be available for all to taste at a dedicated Awards Tasting at the London International Wine Fair.
