Trophies Galore at the IWC - 19/06/2007
No less than three Bibendum producers were celebrating last night as the International Wine Challenge results were announced.
Mitchelton, Stonier and Valdivieso all were awarded regional trophies in the competition.
Mitchelton won the White Rhone Style Trophy for their esteemed Airstrip Marsanne Roussanne Viognier. This 3 grape blend is a wonderful tribute to Rhone winemaking and one of the most unusual Australian wines you will ever come across.
Meanwhile down on the Mornington Peninsula, Stonier are the proud recipients of the Victorian Chardonnay Trophy. Although this sounds like winning an award for the wine most suited to 19th Century behaviour, it's actually not. Their Stonier Reserve Chardonnay 2005 is a thoroughly modern wine but with more than a nod at white Burgundy too.
Last and definitely not least, Valdivieso have even more to cheer about as their Single Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 was the worthy winner of the Chilean Cabernet Trophy. Winemaker Brett Jackson is getting used to making the journey up to the podium at these ceremonies - testament to his considerable skill.
