Red Nose Wine with SAAM - 30/01/2009
SAAM Mountain Vineyards and Comic Relief have teamed up to create the first ever Comic Relief wines: Red Nose Red and Red Nose White. These are available at just £4.99 at a plethora of supermarkets around the country, including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Somerfield, Waitrose, M&S and Booths.
With labels by Damien Hirst and supported by Jancis Robinson MW and Tim Atkin MW, these wines are sure to fly off the shelves! The wines have been made to raise whopping £750,000; £1 from every bottle sale will be donated to Comic Relief.
SAAM means 'together' in Afrikaans, and everyone from the winery to the supermarkets has worked closely to make this project a success. We are bringing a £6+ wine to the shelves for less than a fiver, and to make an incredible amount of money for Comic Relief in the process. SAAM, Erbin and Multiprint provided wines, capsules and labels respectively at cost, while JF Hillebrand, Quinn Glass and all of the retailers are working at reduced margins.
Red Nose Red is a blend of Pinotage and Shiraz, and Red Nose White is made from Chenin Blanc. We'll leave you with Jancis and Tim's tasting notes to whet your appetite - the wines are available from 1st February so make sure you grab yourself a bottle!
2008 Chenin Blanc: "We taste thousands of wines each year and can honestly say that this honeyed Cape Chenin Blanc dramatically over-delivers for the price: real concentration of fruit yet with a great tangy refreshment too."
2008 Pinotage Shiraz: "This hearty, full bodied red brims with goodwill, bramble perfume and raspberry fruit. Drink with friends and partner it with anything you feel like eating."
