Jancis Robinson publishes notes on Northern Rhone 2007 - 04/12/2008
Most of the excitement surrounding the Rhone in 2007 has focused on the top wines from the South and Chateauneuf-du-Pape in particular. The only downside of this is that some superb Northern Rhone wines have been a bit overlooked. Who better to rectify this situation that the great Jancis Robinson who has spent the last few weeks tasting wines both in London and in the Rhone. Hermitage Blanc Domaine Colombier 2007
"All Marsanne planted 1944 on Maison Blanche under Roucoule. Intense and intriguing nose of minerals and herbs - very rich yet lively. Great balance. Some blossom and some lemon cream. Hermitage Rouge Domaine Colombier 2007
"Very meaty and ripe on the nose. Really opulent, rich and heady - masses of ripe fruit! Super ripe - so ripe that it's actually quite difficult to see the sturdy Hermitage-ness of this wine.
