Jancis Robinson publishes notes on Northern Rhone 2007 - 04/12/2008

Most of the excitement surrounding the Rhone in 2007 has focused on the top wines from the South and Chateauneuf-du-Pape in particular. The only downside of this is that some superb Northern Rhone wines have been a bit overlooked. Who better to rectify this situation that the great Jancis Robinson who has spent the last few weeks tasting wines both in London and in the Rhone. Here are her just-published notes on a selection of brilliant Northern Rhone wines. All the notes are taken from www.jancisrobinson.com

Cote Rotie Le Combard Domaine Gilles Barge 2007

"Very meaty nose. Alluring and well balanced. Polished and elegant and classical Cote Rotie. Actually lighter, but more sophisticated, than his St-Joseph." 18pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com

Cote Rotie Cuvee Plessy Domaine Gilles Barge 2007

"Extremely rich and scented. Dry and youthful. Needs lots of time. Fresh and scrubbed." 17.5+pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com

Crozes-Hermitage Blanc Cuvee Christophe Domaine des Remizieres 2007

"Creamy and appetising, spring-like flowers on the nose. Rich and tangy yet with a broad, ripe undertow that is extremely satisfying. Broad, sweet start, but it's all reined in on the finish. Who could object to this wine?" 17.5pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com

Crozes-Hermitage Rouge Cuvee Christophe Domaine des Remizieres 2007

"Very rich. Really dead glamorous for a northern Rhône wine with lots of fine tannins. Sinewy overall. Should be very refreshing." 17pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com

Hermitage Blanc Domaine Colombier 2007

"All Marsanne planted 1944 on Maison Blanche under Roucoule. Intense and intriguing nose of minerals and herbs - very rich yet lively. Great balance. Some blossom and some lemon cream. Full and broad, yet not flabby. Well done. Creamy texture. Real lift on the finish." 18pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com

Hermitage Rouge Domaine Colombier 2007

"Very meaty and ripe on the nose. Really opulent, rich and heady - masses of ripe fruit! Super ripe - so ripe that it's actually quite difficult to see the sturdy Hermitage-ness of this wine. Very approachable. May develop a little faster than some of the more classic Hermitages, I suspect, but it's admirably ripe. Very long." 18pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com

Cornas Vieilles Vignes Domaine Alain Voge 2007

"Mildly farmyard nose though certainly nice and ripe. Dense. Scented. Very polished and charming. Zesty though a little dry on the finish." 17.5pts, Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com
