Pick of the Platters - 28/08/2007
21 wines have been awarded 5 stars in the forthcoming 2008 edition of John Platter's South African Wine Guide 2005, the bible for Cape wines. That's just 21 out of more than 6000 that were tasted for the guide, meaning that these wines are in the top 0.4% of South African wine. That is some achievement indeed and we are thrilled that De Trafford 2005 Shiraz made it into this exclusive club - especially as it is the only Shiraz to be awarded the coveted 5 stars. David Trafford, the man who made it, was also pretty pleased: "De Trafford Shiraz has done very well since the very first vintage in 1998 which was rated best Shiraz by Wine Magazine and a score of 90 from Wine Spectator - all from a tiny 3 year old vineyard. I'm convinced this site has something magical about it. This 2005 wine was the only Shiraz to be awarded five stars and confirms the great potential of this high altitude site.
